summary/abstract:When you purchase a health insurance policy, your insurance company agrees to financially protect you if you get sick or hurt by helping to pay for the healthcare services you need. They also agree to provide preventative services and screening tests, which must be provided at no cost to you.
As a complementary document to PAF’s Health Insurance Education Series, this tip sheet explains how to read important insurance documents such as your member/subscriber ID card, the summary of benefits and coverage document, the summary plan description, and explains what you can expect to find in your plan’s policy language.
