The Northern California Network of Care for Sickle Cell Disease and the California Rare Disease Surveillance Program have recently partnered to further enhance the California Sickle Cell Resources website. Through the collaboration, both programs hope to provide necessary resources regarding Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) for consumers and health care providers in California.
The Northern California Network of Care for Sickle Cell Disease, at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, launched in 2009 as one of the Health Resources and Services Administration´s (HRSA) programs for sickle cell disease (SCD). HRSA has teamed up with programs around the country to:
-Understand the health care experiences of people with SCD, and
-Test out different ways to improve those experiences.
The Sickle Cell Data Collection program in California collects and analyzes data on the health and health care of Californians living with sickle cell disease (SCD). The data will help improve the health, outcomes and quality of life of these Californians by informing decisions about how best to meet their needs. The project is run by the California Rare Disease Surveillance Program, a part of the California Environmental Health Tracking Program and the Public Health Institute.
